Top and bottom teeth hurt - why?

Is there a dental disorder that would cause both a top tooth and a bottom tooth to hurt on the same side of the mouth? It's not from clenching or grinding my teeth. I think I understand why my top tooth hurts (pocket at the gum line) and I realize I need to see a dentist, I just don't get why my bottom tooth would hurt too.

Re: Top and bottom teeth hurt - why?

Could the pocket/infection be pushing the top tooth out of allignment and hitting the bottom tooth wrong?

Just an idea

Re: Top and bottom teeth hurt - why?

I would have thought that except I've been making the effort not to clench all day and I still have pain. Although, I do think my teeth have moved a little.

The top tooth that has the pocket and is painful (what an understatement) is a molar or premolar. Then there's a top tooth that's 1-2 teeth away (an incisor) that also hurts. The bottom tooth that has pain is also an incisor and is right under the upper incisor that hurts. The incisors never touch each other. When the tooth with the pocket first started hurting, no other teeth were affected. Then I woke up Saturday and all these other teeth were hurting.

It's very possible to have what is called "referred pain". So even if your lower tooth has nothing wrong with it, it can feel painful in that area because it (the pain) has drifted from the tooth this is the actual problem.
