| | Wisdom Teeth Extraction - Dull Pain and Ear Ache?
I had my four impacted wisdom teeth surgically removed last Friday. Surprisingly, the day after surgery was not nearly as bad as I had expected, nor were the first few following days. Now (Day 6), I have been experiencing a dull achy pain at my jaw joint and have been getting an ear ache in one and sometimes both ears. I have also noticed that one of my tonsils (on the same side as the ear ache) is slightly swollen. Is this to be expected? Also, I was checking my healing process out the other day and noticed that I have small indentations/holes where my wisdom teeth used to be - is this okay? I have been rinsing my mouth after meals to make sure nothing gets caught anywhere, but I had no idea there were gaps back there!
I went in sooner than scheduled for a post-op (4 days following surgery), because one of my stitches had gotten wedged between two of my teeth, so I had them removed. The surgeon said I didn't have dry socket (I asked) and that I didn't have to come in until another month, because he wanted to make sure I have full range of my opening my jaw/mouth. I have a small mouth in general, and am still unable to open it to its full potential.
I want to feel relieved by my doctor's reassurance; however, it is plaguing me that I am still experiencing pain/achiness in my jaw and now in my ear and throat. Is there anything I can do to help with this, besides take the pain medication I was prescribed? Or is this the course of wisdom teeth extraction, and do I just have to deal with it?
Thanks in advance!
