Gum infection and antibiotics

Yesyerday I saw an emergency dentist as i have a bad infection in my gum which has turned my eye black and the side of my face I look like I have beeen in a fight. The dentist seemed unconcerned that i was feeling very ill and sick with whatever poison was coming from my gum. she gave me a massive dose of antibiotic 3 gramms of ammoxicillin with a prescription for a course of it over the next week. 24 hours on it doesnt appear to be working my mouth is so painful I cant eat or drink. I have rang this morning and the nurse told me give it a few days. I feel like Im being poisoned. I dont know what to do

Re: Gum infection and antibiotics

Hi,
Hang in there. Antibiotics take three or four days to start to work. In the meantime, use warm salt water (1/4tsp in 8oz warm water) and rinse your mouth with it four or five times a day. This will help relieve some of the pain and start to help reduce the swelling. Also, to help with swelling, sleep with your head slightly elevated at night.

Time is your friend here.

Hope this helps.
Hang in there!
Best to you,
Gellia

Re: Gum infection and antibiotics

If your at the end of your antibiotics call the dentist and tell him/her that you still don't feel great. Many times a bad infection needs either a stronger antibiotic or a second round of it. Sounds like you had a real doozy.

Best of wishes and keep us posted...JJ...

Hi,
I agree with JJ. Call your dentist.
