I have a hole in my gums just like in the picture (just behind the bottom right back molar) and that area is quite sore and it's starting to hurt now, I though nothing of it before, I thought it was just sore gums that would go away with bonjela.
Also, there is an unpleasant smell from the hole.
I'm going to make an appointment with my dentist ASAP tomorrow. Is it serious? Is it easy to treat? I'm just a bit worried... Thanks.

Re: Why is there a hole in my gums?! [w/ pictures]
It looks like it might be a fistula. If the tooth has infection near the root, the infection tries to find a way to the surface. That forms a fistula, or tract, that works it's way to the surface forming a hole.
You do need to have it addressed by a dentist. He'll want to xray the area to see what's happening with that tooth.
