it is likely to have been a small localized infection that developed in some glandular tissue. It's a bit of a mystery how it developed, given its location, but this is a happy resolution. if it returns (occurs again) i'd go to the dentist just to rule out an infected mucoceole in which case you'd want to get the infection resolved for good and the mucuceole removed (a blip of misplaced glandular tissue that normally does not pose any problem unless it gets infected. kind of like the way an appendix functionally is not a problem, until it is a problem! hope this helps and all stays quiet!
