I have a painful lump on the inside of my right cheek. I can't open my mouth all the way because it is too painful. It hurts from about my cheekbone to under my chin. The lump is the same color as my cheek and is located in the back where my teeth end. Any suggestions??
You know, that happened to me once. For days, I couldn't open my jaw more than a tiny bit, and I just had to eat liquids and soft stuff.
Went to the dentist, she said that one of my wisdom teeth tried to come in, but got impacted and turned, and wound up pressing on the ligament that shuts the jaw! She said it would probably go away on its own, and it did. Took about 5 days all together, as I recall.
If you are in your teens or twenties and don't have all your wisdom teeth yet, I suspect that's what's going on.
Make an appointment with your dentist, just to make sure it isn't something more serious.
I think it sounds more likely that you have an infection under the gum. You may need antibiotics to clear it up and then a dental xray to determine the cause of the infection (is it an abscessed tooth?, is there food stuck under the gum?, etc)
