I am a male 65 years old who has a huge front lower bridge of a total of 8 teeth including the bridge end teeth and this bridge has come loose on the right side and the end tooth is surely decaying under the bridge. The dentist says this is going to cost $8,000 + to replace and I am glad I was sitting down when he told me as I might have passed out. My other option is to possibly get a partial plate in place of the bridge which my dentist says knowing me I probably would do ok with.
However there are two bones underneath my tongue called "Tori" for plural meaning one on each side that I have had forever without too much thought about removing, but if I am to get a partial plate they got to come out first, I am reluctant to do so, not because I am a weinie on pain, but I hate surgery unless absolutely necessary, but it surely seems I am going to have to do it.
Can anyone give me any really good advice about this and also tell me what to expect in terms of time of surgery, healing time, etc. also cost typical would be a plus if known.
I was prepared to do it with one oral surgeon and he found out I was going on medicare and refused to do it on that program, must be a problem, I guess he was an old military surgeon and knows all about government paperwork I assume.
I am on Humana Medicare so I dont think it is going to bankrupt me, but I am having financial problems like most people during this recession and am just apprehensive and would like feedback from others.
P.S. I am afraid, but apprehensive, and have had major surgeries before and to me this seemsmore like minor surgery compared to having my prostate removed and having 30 yes 30 staples with that and a gallstone removed from my stomach once (19 staples there) along with sinus surgery and Uvula surgery to name just a few of the ones I have had.
But......... when it comes to dental or mouth surgery, that scares me a little more..............
