Strange (awful) odor after root canal

I've been experiencing a strange odor since about a week after a root canal I had a month or so ago. I'm going in for the crown soon. The odor is akin to rotting meat and is triggered by some smells, but more substantially by a few specific ones. Diesel exhaust, for instance, is probably the worst, and my body odor is noticeably more potent, but only noticeable by me. I have a bit of pain if I bite down on the tooth, but only a tiny bit. Currently the tooth is cemented over awaiting the crown. I've read a few things saying it could be bacteria under my tooth from the root canal and I'm wondering if that's the case. If that is the case, would I have to pay for more dental work and potentially a new crown? That's the worst case scenario, second only I suppose to a brain tumor.

Thanks for reading.

Re: Strange (awful) odor after root canal

It could be recurrent infection inside the tooth.

Or, it could be that you are just smelling everything more strongly, now that you've gotten the tooth cleaned out and your head is clearer.

A brain tumor is an extremely unlikely explanation.

See what happens when you go in for the crown.

Re: Strange (awful) odor after root canal

I am more sensitive to smells, but these different scents trigger the same odor. I smell the same thing when I encounter diesel exhaust and fried food, just to a different degree. I'll talk to my dentist. Thanks for the reply.
