Hate this partial

Is this partial always gonna feel like a lump of taffy on the roof of my mouth. Or is there something wrong with it. Dentist said he can't take it down to much or it might break. It's serves as 6 front teeth till I'm ready for my implants and crowns. This is driving me crazy. I cannot eat or talk good with it. And I will have to use it for 10 months. Will I ever get used to this. Thanks, Misty

Re: Hate this partial

Hi,
I feel for you. I had the exact same thing for my top four front teeth while I waited for my implants to integrate.

You didn't say if you had a "flipper" or a metal partial. I had a metal partial which has a thinner base to it. It took me at least three weeks to a month before it was even comfortable, but after that it was fine.

The feeling like it fills your mouth will go away after awhile. I never took my partial out except to brush my teeth or when I showered. I even slept with mine in. I think it made it easier for me to get used to. Be sure to eat soft food and chew with food on both sides of your mouth. It helps prevent the partial from "rocking".

I no longer use mine as my implants and crowns are now complete. I LOVE the implants by the way. They're just like my real teeth, only better.

Good luck. If I can help with any questions you may have, feel free to ask.
My very best to you,
Gellia

Re: Hate this partial

Hi Gellia, Thanks for your reply. I don't know if it was made wrong or something I have to get used to. It's hard to tell if you never wore one before what it's suppose to feel like. Mine is made with acrylic. For short term use. The dentist didn't offer me an option for metal. Just said $550.00, come in next week and pick it up. Had no idea what to expect of this thing. But I have to say the teeth look beautiful on it, but the feeling on the inside of my mouth is nerve racking. I will have to wait 4 months before I can put the last 2 implants in the eye teeth. Then 6 months for them to bond with my bone. Total of 10 months. I know thats not long... but wearing this partial it feels like a lifetime. One needed a bone graft so thats holding things up to complete the work before crowns. I'm hoping I can hold out that long.... but really, I have no choice. Misty

Re: Hate this partial

Hi again,
You'll get used to it. You have what I would call a "flipper". I went with a more expensive partial made of metal because the plate part is thinner.
But a flipper will work. It may take a bit longer to "master", that's all. Keep concentrating on the beautiful teeth part.

The mouth and tongue can tell when something is foreign in it by less than micron. And, the tongue will search for it, too! A flipper is alot of a foreign feeling ! But you will get used to it. Once your implants and crowns are in, it will all become a distant memory.

I know that doesn't help now, but the only thing you can do is look toward the end. The process can be long and arduous, but when you're finished, I predict you will be SO happy with your implants and crowns. I just love my front four!

Do let us know how you're doing and if I can help with any questions you may have, let me know.

My very best to you,
Gellia
