I was told when I had both of my bottom wisdom teeth out about two months ago that I had an abscessed tooth in my back left molar after a failed root canal done four years ago.
So I knew already I had it to have it out. Fast forward to last Friday when the pain started to flare up to Saturday where I nearly went to the emergency room and finally passed out from the pain. I started taking amoxicillin immediately to get the infection under control and it helped a bit.
Yesterday I had the abscessed tooth extracted and the dentist had no problems pulling out the tooth and abscess completely but I still have lingering pain and tenderness under my jaw, I'm assuming from my lymph nodes. To top it off I developed a cold Monday. He told me I didn't need antibiotics since the root of the infection had literally been taken out.
My question is it possible the infection from my tooth spread and infected my lymph nodes and caused a cold?
I'm worried because I have been coughing and sometimes sneezing and I don't want to dislodge the blood clot from the molar because I did have dry socket with my wisdom teeth and it was painful.
My extraction site is actually still also very painful and I know whether it's too early or too late for dry socket. I think I can still see the film of a blood clot but am unsure.
Please help me with any recommendations for treating my tooth or lymph nodes. I haven't had a full meal in days and I've been inside my house laying down, sometimes not even able to sleep.
I'm going a little bit insane being so sick.
