Periodontal disease is an inflammation or infection of periodontal tissue ie. tissue surrounding the teeth. There are two main types of periodontal disease, gingivitis and periodontitis.
Gingivitis is an inflammation or infection of the gums only.
Periodontitis is a destructive infection that can affect all the periodontal tissues, that is, the gums, the underlying bone and the connecting tissues. This is mainly developed in children between 14-17 yrs.
Cause of Gum Disease in kids.
Its main cause is due to a thin sticky film containing bacteria that accumulates on the teeth and converts dietary sugar to acid which causes tooth decay and gum disease. The effects of it can be more dangerous if the patient is unhealthy.
