Angry Swollen Gum

Hello,

I have a swollen left gum on my bottom jaw. The swelling starts on my back molar where it is most swollen and runs down to a few other teeth were is seems to recede. It has been this way for 3 days now. It is noticeable as my cheek is looking puffed out from the swelling. I am taking antibiotics and Advil for the swelling. But as this is new i'm not sure how long it will stay swollen for. Will this go away over a period of a week or 2. Or do I need to get to an oral surgeon.

Thanks for the advice.

Re: Swollen Gum

That sounds like an abscess. Call a dentist first thing in the morning. The antibiotics should help, but it may need to be drained or you might need a root canal.

Re: Swollen Gum

Hi,
I'm with jane. You need to get to a dentist. The antibiotics you are taking may not be the right ones and if you only "tickle" the bacteria instead of killing it you are asking for that same bacteria to dissolve the bone that holds in your teeth.

You need to get to a dentist and have the area xrayed and evaluated properly so you can avoid any future and much more serious problems that can occur with improper treatment.

PLEASE make an appt ASAP.
Good luck and I hope the pain and swelling will be treated and gone quickly.

My best to you,
Gellia

Thanks to both of you. I have an appointment this Monday. Hopefully
the dentist will be able to resolve the issue.
