| Tooth chipped, gum is sore and looks inflamed. What is it and what should I do?
Basically two days ago, randomly, a tiny piece of tooth came loose in my mouth, i think i was eating at the time, but it was like 1mm thick and 3mm long so only a small splinter, one end was a tiny bit silver/black at the tip. It kinda ached a bit and chewing on that side was slightly painful, but I couldn't stop feeling it with my tongue which might have made it worse? I don't know, but I think I should definitely go the dentist, and I would do except I'm currently at university away from home and my local dental practice, and I have a lot of work to do with exams coming up as well so going home isn't really viable. I just want to know really whats wrong and what the extent of the damage is. I brush daily but don't floss or use a mouthwash, I also smoke. The pain is around where the dark bit of gum is below my molar with the filling.
Any help would be really, really appreciated and just to say again, going to the dentist really is only going to be an option if it's a really serious problem that I can't stick out for two weeks.
