Teeth in pain while eating Hot/Spicy Foods

I had a question to anyone out there...
I have had sensitive teeth for over a year now while eating HOT/SPICY foods. I wondered if Im alone and or is there anyone out there that have this same issue?
Im so frustrated because Im not able to enjoy a hot meal. I have used Sensodyne toothpaste for over a year which has helped alittle however, I still deal with extreme pain only when eating HOT/SPICY foods (doesnt happen when eating anything cold). Recently I have gone to the dentist several times which they sent me to one specialist. Come to find out after arriving that he was a root canal specialist...Um, which he later stating that he thought I may have dead teeth. I panicked especially after he wanted to do root canals on all my teeth. I freaked out and went back to my dentist who then rechecked my teeth stated that my teeth are in fact not dead. She later decided that she has no idea why and what is going on with the HOT/SPICY issues that I deal with. My dentist is now sending me to a pain clinic...Not understanding why she wants to send me there I asked the clinic what they can do for me and I was told that they arent sure why Im being sent there since they have never recieved a referral from a dentist. I was told that they dont dignose they treat. My thought is lets find out why and what is going on before treating with meds or blocking etc....
Either way, Im reaching out to ask this simple question...(Ha, after my long explanation) has anyone out there experience this same problem!? I cant be the only one dealing with this nor have a dentist not know what is wrong

Re: Teeth in pain while eating Hot/Spicy Foods

Pain from hot is usually root canal related, so it makes sense that you were referred to an endodontist. Are you sure that the spicy food is actually hurting your teeth and not your gums? I've never heard of spicy food making any difference to teeth, but temperature, yes.

Re: Teeth in pain while eating Hot/Spicy Foods

I am very sure that the hot/spices do cause throbbing/dull aches when I eat spicy foods which is soooooooooo painful. You know when I went to the endodontist he kept saying "I think" everytime he tested each tooth that he said were dead (I have great teeth by the way) granted Its been years since I have seen a dentist. I recently just started seeing a dentist since I was able to get dental coverage. Anywho...I had started this issue over a year now and its getting worst. I went back to my dentist after seeing that endodontist and she re-checked my teeth. She insured me that my teeth are not dead to promote any need for root canals besides they are super expensive and the way that the endodontist was talking he "thinks" that is what I needed I would of had to sell my cars/boats to pay for them, NOT! Its a mystery and annoying/painful!!!

Hi bloopers,

Don't know if you're still having this issue, but i registered because I feel sorry for you
I'm so glad you didn't believe that crook and get root canals. Your dentist sounds a bit weird too.

I don't have an answer for you as i just googled the same thing and found your thread, but i do have some theories. A crack in a tooth, spice getting under a crown, spice reaction with metals in a crown or filling, it's your gums being affected causing inflammation which makes your teeth hurt. Have you tried any natural non sensitive toothpaste? I use Jason Power smile. Might take a while getting use to because it doesn't foam as much as main stream toothpaste and isn't as flavorful (which I prefer). Just suggesting this because you mentioned using your toothpaste for a year and it doesn't sound like it's helping.

I hope your issue is long resolved, but just in case it's not - I hope it does soon
