Avoiding "pro-depressants"!!
I find that avoiding pro-depressants is just as effective as taking anti-depressants, vitamins, hormones, etc.
1. A big depression-inducer for me (and many others) is chocolate. The more pure and chocolatey it is, the worse it is for you! But even a few Oreos can ruin my mood. A big fudgy brownie can put me in a deep dark funk for a week.
2. Sugar. A little is OK. A lot makes me wacko.
3. Not enough sleep.
4. Booze.
5. Stressful people. Avoid them!
6. A bad back. My chiropractor is a major "attitude adjuster".
Hope this helps. I would say #1 is the biggest, though.
