Just started taking Effexor XR

My Doc just started me on Effexor XR 37.5 on this past Monday. I will increase to 75mg on Monday. I am taking it in the morning as my first night time dose kept me awake. I have read enough of the negative posts to be cautious, but I have a lot of trust in my Doc and will give this med a go. So far my only " side effect" has been I feel a bit " speedy". That is not a bad feeling for me . Does anyone have good things to say about this med? The only other med I have evr taken was Buspar a few years ago, and my husband said it made me wierd...I never aske him to define that for me !!

Any input would be appreciated.

Thanks

I am taking effexor xr and it has helped me so much. I was taking paxil, but I began to gain weight, so I switched. I haven't had any side effects except now that I am taking 150mgs I have a very hard time falling asleep. I would rather have this side affect than have panic attacks when I had to leave the house. Good luck, if that doesn't work for you there are many other pills you can try.

about the negative posts on effexor...you will always hear more negative experiences, esp. online, than u would positive. i know many people taking effexor, myself included, that have had nothing but great things to say about effexor xr. i am currently taking 300mg daily combined with 450mg. wellbutrin sr. and effexor has been the only antidepressant to work for me..actually zoloft did for a few months but that is another story.
i love the speedy feeling i get after taking effexor! because my depression causes extreme fatigue so this is a welcoming side-effect. i prefer the speediness of an amphetamine or methamphetamine..but when i cannot get any of those effexor helps. supplementing with l-tyrosine will also increase your energy

Re: Just started taking Effexor XR

I took Effexor Xr for about a year. I felt great and decided to tapper off. Withdrawl symptoms were a problem. I am now on prozac, having panic attacks and major anxiety. I never had this on effexor. I am going back to doctor this afternoon hoping he will give me something different, I think I would consider going back to effexor if doc sugests. Give it a few more weeks and you will see a difference. Good luck.

Re: Just started taking Effexor XR

Hi,

I feel really good on the Effexor XR. I've been on 75 mg for a year now. I take it in the evening with my supper to avoid any gastro effects. The Effexor doesent make me "stoned", sleepy, groggy, OUT OF IT (I get that for other reasons),..etc.

It has given me a calmer perspective that is hard to describe. The dreams are very vivid, I have vivid dreams anyway, but these are wild! But, I love dreaming so that's not a problem.

The withdrawl is a process that you shouldn't worry about at this time. If it works to get your life back on track and your coping skills better...don't waste your brain energy.

The reason it's difficult to get off the Effexor and others like it is because the half-life is very short. There are appropriate methods to withdraw, and it should be very, very slow.

I was in therapy for may years dealing with "myself", long before the Effexor. I did take Ativan (when needed) for the anxiety to help with the therapy. Depression/anxiety runs in my family, oh well.

Can't say enough good about it...it's an amazing freedom mentally that I have to allow myself to enjoy.

You may do well on the 75mg. If you have issues to deal with, the meds won't make them go away. It will help how you deal with them, and that's a huge plus.

Keep us posted as to how you're doing.

Best to you
quincy

Cool Re: Just started taking Effexor XR

swtevnbrz give it a fair chance. I tried many over the years that just didnt work with me and by the time I got this new Family doctor and she went through a list of meds like paxil pamelor, zoloft, ect.and asked me if I tried these. She thought effexor xr would take care of my panic attacks and depression which I can honeslty say has after 3 weeks. Has changed me 100% for the better. I dont feel hopeless and I have some goals and life looks alot better. As I said in my other post I had a little blurred vision sweats and sexual dysfunction from this but its a even trade to be thinking and feeling mentally heathy good luck to ya keep us posted. Im on 150mg per day.

Re: Just started taking Effexor XR

Magnum4x......you said it perfectly......not feeling hopeless. I also noticed that my pupils got a bit bigger (mine are very small) and everything looks brighter and with more colour. That in itself gives me a better perception of life and of what's around me.

I just started taking Efexor XR 4 days ago and so far so good. I haven't experienced any problems as yet. I was taking Zoloft for a few months and found it wasn't working for me. I am now starting withdrawal symptoms from stopping the Zoloft. I also took Prozac last year and it helped for a few months but I was a little 'loopy' on it and the Zoloft. So far with the Efexor I have been feeling more normal, but it is early days yet. Good luck!

Re: Just started taking Effexor XR

Hello again,

Today is the end of my second week taking Effexor XR. I am taking 75 mg once a day. I haven't noticed an adverse effects, however, I have had the usual family drama this week and I have noticed that my emotions are kind of " flat". I didn't get all worked up the way I normally do....is this the way its supposed to be working? If so, then it is a definate improvement on the heart pounding, emotional rollercoaster followed by crawling in a shell to wait out the drama, or my normal response..run like hell !!! You know, that fight or flight thing. If all those people would behave themselves then I wouldn't have to take these meds....HA HA !!!!

Hope everyone had a Blessed Thanksgiving, in spite of all the junk going on, I did.

Swtevnbrz
