I am currently taking lexepro and xanax for depression and anxiety. I also take a drug called Suboxone for addiction. However, I have gained over 20 lbs on these drugs.
I just went and saw my doc and he said that if I went on the extended release of wellbutrin and also topamax, that my weight gain would subside and I could lose it? I'm doing so well on the combination of these medicines - I hate to mess it up w/adding something else. But I'm starving myself and not losing because of these meds.
In addition - I've tried the regular Wellbutrin before and had severe anxiety. My doc said the time release version would work much better for me. What do you guys think? And if anyone has experience w/Topomax - please fill me in on what it does and what it's for. Thanks everyone and I appreciate it!
Topamax is often prescribed for weight loss. And lots of other things.
It main use is for seizures. Off label use has included migraines, bipolar mood disorders, nerve pain, anxiety disorder, weight loss, alcoholism, the list goes on. Success with migraines has been quite good. Weight loss varies by individual, for some it is quite dramatic. There are many possible side effects. It is a drug that needs to be started slowly and monitored very carefully. It is one of the newer antiseizure medications like Neurontin.
