period + depression?

i get these depression stages each month right before my period and the beginning of my period. Usually lasts about 3~4 days~ i tend to think a lot and very negative about stuff. I heard some other people who are like that..others are just grumpy and stuff~ but does period really effect the mood? i usually cry for no reason..think a lot and a lot and a lot..which are all negative..and feel really down.

Re: period + depression?

of course periods can affect ur mood. think of it this way, ur hormones are gonig to be al over the place as u have peaks in oestrogen just before ur period e.t.c.

its typically callled pre-menstrual tension or pre-menstrual stress. you can herbal remedies for things like that. but your not alone, lots of people go thru this.

Oh yes girly...I feel ya big time on this one. I had to laugh when I read your post cuz u totally described the way I am and most women I know. My poor boyfriend will tell ya I get the worst depression attacks right b 4 my period starts! I cry uncontrollably over pretty much nothin, eat like crazy and get very cranky ! *lol* It stinks we have to deal with this once a month but just look at it this way, when your feeling like that at least u can say I know it wont last for ever and u will feel "normal" again *lol*

Absolutely. I haven't had that experience myself, but I know people who have huge variations in how they feel related to the time of the month. Some people take antidepressants for only part of the month to handle PMDD. You might ask a doctor if that's something that might work for you. Or maybe taking birth control pills - for some people, that helps cut down on PMS/PMDD symptoms.

Re: period + depression?

Your period really effects your mood and sometimes does cause you to get very depressed for a few days. Often the first day i start i also get very depressed and i find myself thinking negetivly and deeply about things that would not normaly bother me i also tend to dwell on situations. It does suck beacuse some people don't get like that they do just get moody. Sometimes i even find myself crying over cheesy movies too. What has helped me is when i know i am about to start or already started and i have bad thoughts i'm just constatnly telling my self that i'm being overly emotional and i tell myself i'm ony feeling this way because i'm on my period. Sometimes it really helps you outa try it.
