Anyone Know If St John Wort Decreases Sex Drive

I AM THINKING ABOUT TAKING ST JOHNS WORT, AND GIVING IT TO MY HUSBAND PROBLEM IS I DO NOT WANT IT TO DECREASE HIS SEX DRIVE AS MOST ANTI-DEPRESSANTS AND ANTI- ANXIETY MEDS DO. ANY GUYS TOOK ST JOHNS WORT? I HAVE HEARD IT CAN HELP THAT WOULD BE GREAT BUT I DON'T WANT TO INCOURAGE HIM TO TAKE IT AND IT DECREASES.

I had no side effects at all while taking it years ago. I'm considering getting off my Effexor and going back on SJW.

Re: Anyone Know If St John Wort Decreases Sex Drive

I didn't have any performance problems when I tried St. John's. I have seen a few such complaints from men on other depression boards, and there are a couple of case reports referenced on PubMed. So I would have to say sexual dysfunction can be caused by St. John's, but far less frequently than by SSRI's.
By the way one pharmaceutical antidepressant, Wellbutrin, actually enhances sexual performance.
