anyone taking neurontin also need some support

A few months ago someone posted they started taking Neurontin for depression. I was wondering how it was going. I have got to start taking something again for my depression. I wanted a bit more info about Neurontin before going to my Dr. and asking to try this med. Thanks for any help or replies.

I think this is about the worst my depression has ever been. Generally i can walk around with it and still be productive, just feel slowed down. I am at the point that I am struggling everday to do much of anything. I have even lost interest in some of my favorite activites. I have been physically sick too which does not help. I am very discouraged because i have not been able to walk on my treadmill and i have not felt well enough to play with my watercolors. I was very sick with either a food reaction ( which is what i think i had) and my dr. said it was he thought it was a virus and that my depression was really bad. I was more physically sick than depressed but the Dr. did not see it that way. He is new to treating me. I have gotten over what ever it was but have been left feeling ovewhelmed and a great lose of time. I lost time painting and time walking on the treadmill which had been my two main goals at the time. Also i want to repaint the living room and my husband and i can not agree on a color. i want something cheerfull and bright. I bought new curtains and slip covers . They are okay, not what i would have personally chosien but more of a compromise. Something my husband and i both can live with but neither really like. I prefer things around me that i have a love effinety for. Much of my depression stems from my husbands sexual dysfunction. He is not able to and ... anyway i suffer phsycially and emotiionally over this. We are in counceling and we are being refered to a urologiest. It appears that his problem is very physical and i am going very mental over this major loss. I am trying to seek a higher relationship with God but at times i am so angre. We are not attending church right now because it hurts too much to sit on a pew and be amoung people that one do not know what is going on and two really could not help and it would not really be of any use for them to know. And it is too hard to sit in a pew and worship God when I HURT this much. Thanks for listening again. Bastila

Thumbs up Re: anyone taking neurontin also need some support

Neurontin makes me feel o.k. to superhuman amazing - for a few hours. You need to take it many times a day, and I crash in between. Plus,I don't love how it makes me feel - kind of out-of-it. I like it as a bandaid but, for me, it's a partial help.

My advice: Even if you feel that it's IMPOSSIBLE to do anything {I know that feeling well!}, force yourself! Try neurontin - it helps me, maybe it'll be even better for you. You have nothing to lose! Good luck!

Bastila
This is the first time I've ever heard of neurontin being used as an antidepressant.
It's primary purpose is for seizures, nerve pain, RLS, anxiety and somtimes as a bipolar mood stablizer. I guess I learned something new today. Some people tolerate it very well and others dont. I hope it works for you. Take Care, K

Thumbs down Re: anyone taking neurontin also need some support

I used it for a mood stabilizer for awhile. I'm not sure if this was a coincidence or not, but around the time I started it, I started getting the weirdest sensation in my head. I dubbed them "brain shocks". It was like a bolt of electricity was starting in the back of my head and would shoot through the front in the space of about 1/2 a second at seemingly random times. It was also something I could HEAR as well. I'm not sure how to describe how they sounded.
Eventually I got off the med, but the brain shocks still continued for a few years, which makes me consider the possibility that I should attribute the timing of the onset of the shocks to a coincidence. These shocks also seemed to have triggers sometimes... loud noises, lots of movement, lots of color or intricate patterns, light, and oddly enough, bad memories.
I heard some people say they had the same thing on Effexor. I don't know if theirs continued past the time they were taking the medicine though. Again, I don't know whether or not to attribute the shocks to Neurontin, but I've always been rather suspicious.
Kristina
