I know it's called PMS, and I should just deal with it. But I get soooo depressed before my period. It's like I am totally different person. I sleep constantly and have thoughts of suicide. As soon as I get my period, its like the fog has been lifted. Does anyone else get this? How do you deal? I really hate that my body does this to me. It's like I want to switch off the hormones. I'm on a lot of meds and it really doesn't help PMS. Anyone care to comment?
I ALSO GO THRU MOOD SWINGS ,DEPRESSION AND IT SEEMS LIKE I HATE THE WORLD WHEN IM ON MY PERIOD.I TRIED PROZAC IT HELPED MY DEPRESSION,BUT HAD TO GO OFF OF IT BECAUSE OF HEART PALPUTATUIONS AND IT WAS RUINNING MY SEX LIFE.IM GOING TO TRY SAINT JHONS WORT,DONT KNOW IF IT WILL WORK,BUT ILL LET YOU KNOW.I STARTED MY PERIOD WHEN I WAS 18 AND NOW IM 47,WITH THE SAME SYMPTOMS.I GET REALLY BAD CRAMPS AND FEEL SO TIRED AND DEPRESSED THAT I WISH ON THOSE DAYS I WOULD OF BEEN BORN A MAN!LOL LOL.we woman sure go thru alot dont we?,,,take care...
What you describe, Nellz, sounds more like PMDD (which affects people more severely than does PMS). I don't have it as bad as you, but I have found that the Omega3 oils (as in salmon oil) help quite a bit if you want to go the "natural way".
A doctor might give you a couple of options: 1) birth control pills or 2) an antidepressant. Some women take Zoloft (or 1 of the SSRI's) just for the last 2 weeks of their cycle.
I had been so irritable, moody, and depressed for the past week. I woke up today and discovered I was on my period. It was like, "Oh, duh!" I should've figured that one out, especially after I pleaded with my boyfriend last night to go out and buy us all chocolate cake! In the vitamin section of most retail stores (Wal-Mart, Target...) there are usually blends for PMS, or "Women's Support." I take something called "Female Harmony," but I haven't been taking it regularly enough for it to actually work. Maybe something like that could help you? A doctor can also prescribe hormones that could help.
Best of luck,

I'm new here but i know what u're going thru. i found that nothing helped except for the birth control patch( aka ortho evra). Of course i am married so that makes things convenient. i had really bad side affects from the pill and found the patch to be awesome. no more mood swings of extreme crying one minute and giddiness the next. i am pretty solid.
