Endorphins?

Hello all, I'm not quite new to the board - I've posted here a couple of times in the past. I've been battling bouts of depression for almost a year now.

I was just wondering - does anybody know of anything (besides chocolate, exercise, sex, laughter, fun, etc etc) that helps produce/stimulate/create endorphins? Is there any kind of pill out on the market that does this or create this kind of effect?

The reason I ask is because I noticed the difference the other day when I did something good for myself - I could actually think and focus, and I felt more calm and collected. But unfortunately, those positive feelings slowly faded away as the depressed feelings took back over.

Any suggestions or comments are most appreciated.

Re: Endorphins?

Hi there, don't know about endorphin-producing pills, but TENS units - mainly used for pain relief - produce endorphins. Pricewise, I think they are from about €60/£40/$75 approx (very rough exchange rates here!) for a small unit, which would probably be all you'd need.

Funny, I have a TENS unit for back pain, but I never thought of trying it to produce endorphins! Must try it on my husband, I'll greet him with it when he comes in the door later and see does it do anything for him.

Re: Endorphins?

I actually just read a book about depression, there are all sorts of amino acids & supplements to combat endorphin, serotonin, etc deficiancies.
For endorphins: DLPA, DPA, Free Form Amino Acid supplement.

It's really important to get alot of protein as well. You should google DLPA and DPA to learn more.
