liver cleanse of medication.
i took lustral (zoloft) for about 4 months. i came off the medication about one year ago now, but i still feel like the med is inside me in some way. i feel like it still affects me in an adverse fashion, even if only subtlely. my question is does the body store medication it in the liver? could there stil be some in there now? has anyone had any experience of flushing out the med with a liver tonic herb like milk thistle? any thoughts on this issue?
I'm not sure about storing the drug, but I do know that a lot of drugs are metabolized by the liver. That's why a lot of doctors are careful to keep an eye on a patient's liver function when they are on meds long term. That's also why alcoholics tend to succumb (did i spell that right?) to some sort of liver disease after many years of abuse.
At any rate, whether the liver stores it or not I know it can sometimes take a while for a drug to completely clear your system. Some people still experience effects several months after stopping a medication. You should talk to your doctor about it and also ask about milk thistle...it probably wouldn't hurt, even if it didn't do any good, but you should check anyway.

I've heard the meds don't get stored in the body after a few months but I don't know for sure. However, I do know that meds which target certain brain receptors can cause downregulation of those receptors and upregulation of other ones in contrast, so the brain is off a bit in terms of receptor balance as a result, so when one comes off the med, even after a sucessful withdrawal period, the brain usually needs alot of extra time to try and rebuilt the system again, so causing some lingering adverse effects perhaps.
