Does it scare anyone about these new FDA warning about increased risk of suicide? I was just reading an article, I knew there was the warning for children and adolecents but now they have issued it for adults too. Does anyone know much about this? From what I understand the risk is MAJORITY in the first month or so. Could you have been on an AD for years successfully and then out of no where go over the deep end? Or is it really just a risk when your just starting out and if you haven't had this side effect after all this time (like over a year) then your out of the wood more or less?

there is always a risk present. The biggest concerns are when starting or when the dosage chages.

Does it scare me? Not really as I was suicidal when they were prescribed so the doctors felt the reward out weighed the risk

I'd have to agree with trg247. I was also suicidal (thoughts only) when starting AD'S, but the meds have helped a great deal for me.

It scares me a little, but I was severely suicidal, and actually attempted it...almost successfully, then they put me on medications, and my thoughts of even doing so have went down a lot, and no attempts at all. So I think the rewards definitely outway the risks. But having a plan known to others is great so that if the time should come that one feels suicidal, the plans will already be put in place to make sure things aren't followed through with.
