Here is what I read on rxlist.com:

Quote:
Major Depressive Disorder Initial Treatment

The recommended dose of LEXAPRO is 10 mg once daily. A fixed dose trial of LEXAPRO demonstrated the effectiveness of both 10 mg and 20 mg of LEXAPRO, but failed to demonstrate a greater benefit of 20 mg over 10 mg (see Clinical Efficacy Trials under Clinical Pharmacology). If the dose is increased to 20 mg, this should occur after a minimum of one week.

Re: lexapro 4 months and still not happy

Hi there,

I have been taking 20 mg. Lexapro for over six months now. The wierd thing I've noticed with it is for me at least, it helps me sleep and not be as suicidal, but it doesn't make me happy either. It makes me feel kinda numb and out of it. I don't know exactly how it works or anything, but it like gets rid of a little of the bad, but doesn't replace it with anything?

Anyway, something that might help is combination therapy. I have a friend who takes 10 mg. Lexapro and Wellbutrin. She says that the Lexapro helps ease the bad thoughts, and the Wellbutrin replaces them with happy thoughts. So I guess it works better. I'm working on checking into it myself. I don't know if that sounds good to you, but it might be worth a try?

Good luck

-Angel

Re: lexapro 4 months and still not happy

Hi,
I was on Lexapro for about six months. (20 mg). I thought it was working just a little at times and then not working. I came to the conclusion that it sucked (for me atleast). I recommend Cymbalta. It has done WONDERS for me. I am also on a little Lithium as well, so it might be a combination of the two, however I don't know if the Lithium is doing anything. Just a couple thoughts. Keep me updated.
