The counselors were strange! - Depression Message Board

Two counselors I know like to meet with their clients out of their office by the coffee shop or candy store next door and hold sessions there. Isn't that strange and unprofessional?? I think so.

I believe it is unprofessional and stay away from them.
One counselor I know wanted to give me sessions at my place, give her carpools, deposit her checks, print stuff for her, go to gym with her. She also spread insurance money the way she wants, buying books for me on them. She said that she will charge me less in co-pay but give me less sessions and that I shouldn't pay attention when I get statements. Every time I pay her she makes me feel uncomfortable as if I underpaying her.
All of it won't be even a big deal, but one day she came looking strange and started shout and insult me and turned against me everything I opened to her and it last like that few sessions until I dumped her. Dumping her wasn't that simple as well.
Overall I would go to person with regular office and who charge me as much as I should pay.

I agree with the previous post, how the hell are you supposed to have a quiet, confidential conversation in a coffee shop? I've never heard anything like it. Find someone you meet in the same room or office, in private, every week - keep away from these oddballs!

I strongly suggest to go only with a person with recommendation from a friend, relative, primary care phisician.
