I've had Acupunture about 10 times for stress and anxiety.
I found the most advanced and qualified Oriental Doctor I could find. MDs or DOs who practice acupunture would be my choice only if there was not a Oriental Doctor or fulltime acupunturist in my area.
My acupunturist checked numerous pulses of my body. Yes, we have more than just one. He was dead on about my tramua, stress and anxiety among other things.
He checked my tongue which is routine and notice dietary def. and suggested supplements which helped.
The herbal formulas can be tough to make and take. Many good tea formulas smell bad and taste worse but they work well.
The needles were painless except where there is energy blockage. Not everyone gets needles everytime. My blockage like many who have bipolar/depression are in the legs, feet and chest. The feet blockages hurt a lot. I usually got around 30 needles in my body per session. After the needles are inserted, a heat lamp is placed over some spots to help the energy flow. Also, sometimes an electrical charge is connected to some needles to increase energy like the heat lamp does.
Then they put a foil like blanket over your body and let you rest for 15 to 30 minutes.
After rest period, they then take out the needles and I always could notice how balanced my energy levels were and I was ready to start the day. I always had AM appointments so I could start the day off right.
Acupunture isn't cheap and is not a cure all but does help for depression/bipolar. Most sessions cost around 60 bucks not including any herbals or custom formulas. Sometimes I spent up to 90 bucks on just one session. Insurance doesn't cover acupunture except in workers comp. and other very specific cases. Acupunture is superb for stress, anxiety, depression, carpal tunnel, back pain and even early stages of certain cancers.
