Zoloft-nasty withdrawal - Depression Message Board

hi , i've been off of zoloft now for three months, but its been a rough three months. i did withdraw from it gradually as i should, but the worst of the side effects still exist when i become upset, and that is the feeling that my nerves go through what seems to be some sort of a spasm. its not a steady thing it comes and goes and when i am calm its all good. but if i get upset, cry or am just angry, there goes the spasms, my doctor can't explain it, and nowhere does it indicate this as a sideeffect in the the brochure for zoloft.. so any advice...would be really really appreciated. thanks

hi!! i'm sorry i havn't any idea on that med & its side effects!! I just wante to say i hope that whatever it is thats caused you too feel like this gets sorted soon & that you'll soon feel better!!

I've just recently come off Zoloft myself, and I've noticed that my anger sometimes gets out of hand. I don't even think it was this bad before I was on it in the first place! Don't know if it's a side effect of it, but I'm sure not happy about it, but I don't want to go back on it to see. Guess I'll have to wait it out and see. Good luck to you!

hi - i had the same anger problem when i weaned off of trazadone (which, i think, is a tricyclic rather than a ssri. my pdoc suggest that maybe the depression was coming back (oh - i wtill take 40 mgs. of celexa a day - the traz was for sleep).

i know someone who also had the spasms and anger from zoloft withdawal.

it is JUST begining to be accepted that antidepressant indeed have a long withdrawal process.

like valium in the 60's and qualude in the 70's - ad's have been touted as totally non-addicting.
imho - anything that has withdrawal effects like ad's do is "addicting" to ones body.

that said, i hope this goes away soon - i think my friend was ok after about 3-4 wkks - although she still is very short tempered (not like her)

perhaps your doc could put you on a mild tranq on an as needed basis for when you have the spasms?

I am in the process of weaning off the stuff myself. I was on it for 3 years, at a max of 200mg and now am taking 50 every other day. Right now, I am experience dizziness, esp. at night and I have noticed my temper is shorter, but other than that, not so bad.
