Re: prozac 4 PMDD ??

I'm curious about this also. I asked my gp if I could try it, but he thought it might be too stimulating for me, as I suffer from anxiety/panic disorder. I bet my gyn would let me try it though. Is prozac one that doesn't have to build up in your system, like all the other ad's? I'm suprised it can just be taken two weeks out of the month. It is approved for pmdd, though.

when i went to gyno. a couple weeks ago, she prescrobed it for me, its for pmdd..even the package has info on the PMDD... i have it and oh my gosh.. its live im living in hell or something and i know i put my family thrugh it all too... ive only been on it a week and i havnt been moody as much as usuall, but im new to this so, i guess illl try it...SO FAR NO SIDE EFFECTS.. but i do feel hungry alot but im an over eater, emotional eater and bored eater and i just love food. i have lost 33 lbs but gained back 8 and i got to get it off. so i hope this doesnt make u gain weight.... i know i have tried all kinds of "depression med." that my regular dr. had me on and it only worked for a while, and i kept telling her, " its only when im a week or 2 before my period and she wouldnt listen, so finally i was reading on here and found out about everyone having bad pms and im like, thats me and looked it up, and went to the gyno... hope this helps a little....

Re: prozac 4 PMDD ??

Hi

I started taking Prozac about 6 weeks ago for Depression and BAD PMS. My first month on it was good in the way of PMS. It Definetely lessened the mood swings. I'm having a bit of trouble with emotional numbness though. It's not too bad at 10mg, but at 20mg I feel like I don't feel ANYTHING, Good or Bad.

Anyway, i dont like it and I'll be talking to my Dr tomorrow about it.

If anyone has anything to offer on this, would LOVE to hear it!

Thanks,

Chris

I was changed from Lexapro to Prozac 20mg two weeks ago and I can mirror your comments.

On Tuesday, my psych increased me to 40mg/day and i'm starting to feel the elevating feeling I was hoping for. Hopefully that will even increase in the coming days.

BTW... a friend also w/ depression told me the day I told I'm now on Prozac that I'm going to need 60mg/day to really do the job.

I'll report back to my pysch in two Tuesdays.

Re: prozac 4 PMDD ??

GHGORE,

So, the numbness went away at the higher dose??? What about other side effects at that dose, such as sexual side effects, hunger, sleep???

I really want this med to work, I've been on many. My doc just added Wellbutrin to counteract the sexual side effects.

Thanks for any input you may have....

Chris

I can't say that with certainty. I'm only two days into the doubled dosage of 40mg, so I'm assuming there will be some waiting involved. I am feeling like there is an improvement though.

Honestly, I've not had an instance to know anything about any possible sexual side affects yet... hehe.

I will definitely keep things updated regarding my progress and treatment.

I'm also taking Clonapin at night to help with insomnia so i'm sure it's a synergistic affect with that other problem i've always had.

Re: prozac 4 PMDD ??

Hi Julie,

I'm having the same problem with the Prozac. I feel slowed, tired, drained and not sleeping well the week before my period now. THe first month on it wasn't this bad.

Another poster, GHGore said he needed 40mg to get relief from these feelings. I wonder if this would help.

So far I'm not overly impressed with PRozac 4 PMDD!

Let me know if you get any more info from your doctor.

Chris

Don't listen to your friend. As with any medication, what each body needs is different, and only you and your dr. can determine what's best for you. You may need 60, but you may only need 40--or you may need 80. Ignore that well-intentioned but misguided prediction.

I've been on Prozac about 2 months. When I'm not PMS I don't take it every day, maybe every other day since it has a long half life. The numbness from it is just intolerable. I don't know if it will get better at a higher dose or worse. I got my period today and feel a relief from the fatigued/fuzzy/overwhelmed/depresssed feeling I had the past week.

Its weird how they have you take it only a couple of weeks out of the month for PMDD. Usually it takes awhile for you to get used to a drug and the side effects to get better . That won't happen if you're not taking it consistently, I would think????

Like anything, I'll take it for what it's worth... a perspective from one person.

It will be Tuesday of next week, that I return to my psychologist and I'm going to try to get another increase, as of how i'm feeling to date (Thurs Night).

I've had a romantic issue within the last couple of days and actually took one extra this morning (60mg) to hopefully help me with my work day and I actually have a feeling that already made a slight increase in my elevated mood.

Re: prozac 4 PMDD ??

OK I just passed my first month trying sarafem for PMDD and I have to say, I feel GREAT! Especially compared to how I was feeling before. I would have PMS Symtoms 2 weeks prior to my period and during.

Tiredness is a side effect I have felt, but it isn't overwhelming, just a really relaxed feeling, and I have a lessoned appetite (which is fine by me).

Overall the benefits outweight the few side effects I've felt.
