Linda, knowing some of your history it seems that you could gain confidence by becoming more independent. From what you have written, your parents didn't let you venture out far on your own. People gain confidence by doing things on their own and then feeling confident that they did it! If I had a baby and then never let her do anything for herself while she was growing up she would never think that she could do anything on her own and, therefore, would have no confidence in her abilities. I see how my daughters look when they start accomplishing things on their own. There is confidence all over their faces! It would seem that your self-esteem would go up as your confidence goes up.
