Question Wean Off Effexor XR

I have taken Effexor XR for over two years. I am currently up to 300 mgs but this med is no longer helping my depression. My doctor is going to try Paxil. He is weaning me off Effexor by dropping down 75 mgs each week. I just started today. I have heard a lot of horror stories on this board about coming off Effexor. Has anyone come off Effexor without all of the bad side effects? Right now I need to hear some positive reports.

Re: Wean Off Effexor XR

Sorry i can't give you a positive report. But i did want to warn you that I think you're Dr. is going too fast. It took me 4mos to wean off my 150mg's. Of course everyone is different so it may not be as hard for you. Good luck...

Re: Wean Off Effexor XR

Thanks for the info. I felt the same way and I asked him would the side effects be very bad and he told me "they won't if we do it the right way". I will definitely let him know if I am feeling really bad.

Re: Wean Off Effexor XR

I went from Paxil to Effexor overnight, not sure if it would work the other way and my system handles meds really well.

The main point I have seen of weaning off of effexor is slower is better
