| Amantadine?
I am being treated for both treatment resistant depression and ADD. I take Adderall, 10mg 2x per day, while I am at school and take drug holidays while I am not. I am also on Effexor and Wellbutrin. The Adderall is used in conjunction with these other medications for Depression as well. I have a very trusting psychiatrist, as I have extensive substance abuse issues. The Adderall helps enormously and I am able to take it responsibly. However, because it is controlled and I have substance abuse history it is a pain in the butt to get every month (questioning, new Rx, reevaluation, no call in's, drug holidays, etc). It has been established that I respond best to Dopaminergic treatment (hence the Wellbutrin... I take 450 mg of Immediate Release...as close to a stimulant treatment as possible according to my PDOC) and that other options are just to level me out (Effexor). I need a long term drug that isn't so tightly controlled or abusable as Adderall. I heard about Amantadine which is a Dopamine Agonist (originally a Parkinsons drug) and it is being used experimentally for co morbid ADD/Depression as Wellbutrin is. Has anyone heard anything about this drug? Should I consider it? What are your toughts? Thanks Guys!
