Hello to all on the depression website. I have begun my "quest" for VNS (Vagus Nerve Stimulation). I certainly fit the profile of someone who would benefit from this treatment. As I expected, the real battle is going to be obtaining insurance coverage for this treatment. Although VNS is a new treatment, it has shown great promise for individuals who suffer from treatment resistant depression. I called my medical insurance HMO and they didn't even know what VNS was. After being put on hold for 20 minutes, I was told that they "offer classes". Say what? Perhaps I will be flying to India to have the one hr surgery performed. Anyone on this board with knowledge of VNS, please let me know about your experience. If you have treatment resistant depression, it wouldn't hurt to look into VNS as an option. There are currently class action lawsuits against some of our find insurance companies who refuse to cover this treatment. If anyone has any knowledge of an insurance company that paid for VNS, I would certainly like to know the name.
