Brain Pains - Depression Message Board

I started taking Wellbutrin and would have these zaps and pulsing in my head... I call them my Hit and Run Brain Pains. It would come on very fast and last only seconds. I only had about once a month, Now I am having them often as many times during the day. Sometimes after the initial zap or hit, I would feel like there was a horrible pulsing in my brain. I read some on brain zaps when going off of antidepressants. I weaned off and totally stopped about 2 wks ago. I hope that this is what I have. As upon reading, most say that they do go away. I am having an MRA on Wednesday to make sure I do not have a brain anyursem. Anyone else have something like this? My doctor first thought that it was nerve problems from shingles, but I never got a rash or blisters. I ignored them at first because they were so far apart and only lasted seconds. But now they come about 10 to 20 minutes apart and I will have them mild to very severe....

Weird...I've been on Wellbutrin a couple weeks and just had a small brain zap today, so of course it freaked me out. It wasn't painful or anything, just strange and unpleasant. It felt like electricity buzzing at the top of my brain, which then shot down to the tips of my fingers and toes. All in all, lasted about 5 seconds. Now you have me worried that it's going to become a regular occurence!

How did your MRI go? Did the doctors have any wisdom about this?

I know what you mean. I have the same thing Please let me know how your MRI goes. I was on Zoloft.

I had my MRI and it was normal.... the brain hits have decreased to less than 5 over the past few weeks. Hopefully, it is the brain zaps and will stop completely in the next few weeks. Hope all is well.

I have been on several anti-depressants over the years as I suffer from bipolar disease. I too experienced the brain pains when cutting back from Wellbutrin. It took a couple of months after stopping usage before they went away. Like you I was afrid that I was having a stroke. The pains seemed to be right above my left eye and felt like a quick jab with a very sharp instrumnet. It would make me wince. The jab was short and at times would be evry 15-20 minutes. I am happy to report that it finally stopped on its own.
