How do I wean myself off Wellbutrin XL?

I've been taking 450 mg of Wellbutrin XL for a few months now and I feel that it's pretty useless. Before this I took Wellbutrin SR and I got a big reaction off that, but apparently it was mania so I was switched to XL which does nothing for me.

A month ago my doctor randomly prescribed me so tricyclide (sp?) antidepressant...I didn't even know he prescribed it to me till I went home and looked at the prescription paper for refilling my Wellbutrin. He didn't even tell me why he was prescribing it or that he was prescribing it period. So I didn't take it. In the next appointment I told him this and he got mad and basically said I have to take whatever he prescribes me, no questions asked. So it was no surprise when he refused to tell me how to wean myself off the Wellbutrin and instead prescribed some random tranquilizer which "just came on the market"...and he was probably bribed to prescribe it. And this was after I told him that I'm constantly fatigued. I actually took it for 2 days...to disastrous results (again, no surprise). I couldn't even get out of bed for half the day.

So anyway, if anyone knows how to properly wean yourself off 450 mg of Wellbutrin XL, please tell me as I have no other way of finding out. I'm 19, 5'8, and 140 lbs. in case that's relevant.

Wellbutrin withdrawl is not that bad, you see very few people complain about it. 450mg is a high dose though so I do not know. You could treat it like Paxil or Effexor and drop by ten percent, wait til your body adapts then drop again. I am looking at a Wellbutrin XL 300mg and I have no idea how to cut it down. Sorry I couldn't help

take care

Hmm well I don't know how I could drop by 10% since you're not supposed to split the pills. I think I could just get off it like I got on it, which would be dropping one 150 mg pill each week. Anyone know if this is ok?
