It is my understanding that alcohol will intensive the effects of the drugs and/or alcohol. Also, I think there are adverse side effects depending on the exact drug itself. As for how much is ok to drink, for some you can't really at all. I would talk to your doctor and ask. I did and I was told for my meds an occasional drink is ok. Like a drink at dinner with friends. Nothing crazy like bar hopping and such.
So talk to your doc and they can give you a better answer suited for your exact drug(s)
All I can tell you is what I've experienced personally. I know that if I have more than a couple of drinks then I feel tired & cranky for 3 or 4 days. And if I get drunk, I normally end up crying in a bathroom somewhere before the end of the night. Basically I keep my alcohol consumption to a minimum.
Yep, alcohol is a depressant, so it makes you MORE depressed. I know this first hand... After years of abusing alcohol. Like mycat, I am depressed for 3 days or so just after drinking a lot. So, I don't do that anymore... No way.
Anyway, it also makes you more tired when you're on ADs and drink alcohol. Makes you "buzzed" faster? Effects of too many drinks come on quicker.

My face would go total red just after 2 pints, I can normally drink a lot without feeling anything, but a bit hot. Anyway, I got drunk last week, then I started crying to my friends, I was reall dizzy but couldnt sleep, so I took to sedative my doc gave me to help sleeping, then I got totally manic and over excited, started annoying my friend on MSN at like 3am, I was totally totally overly excited, and with all those creative ideas of how to commit suicide and self harm, I passed out in the end. Then I was bloody high for 2 whole days just randomly laughing and annoying people... that was actually quite fun... but honestly, I try to avoid drinking a lot, but sometimes I just cant say no to a couple of drinks after a long day, you know...
I've been on antidepressants, lots of different ones for the last 5 years straight and I drink every single day....usually only wine. I can't calm down at night and I don't want to increase my Xanax, that scares me more than the alcohol. I just need to sleep and I don't know anyother way how. Nothing bad has ever hapened to me and my Dr said my liver is great but just don't over do it. HTH
all i can say is that even a glass of wine makes me very sad and tired and down, and thats not where i want to be, i would not drink if your already a depressed person, it makes things worse. hope this helps.
Just out of curiousity-when do you all take your meds if you are planning to drink that night? I usually take mine right before bed and I have never drank on my meds, but I would like to have an occasional glass of wine. Should I take my meds earlier in the day if I want to have a drink at night?

I'm not sure. What do you take? Have you asked your Dr? I take my antidepressants in the morning and the Xanax just before bedtime. Antidepressants seem to give me the insomnia.
I take Luvox and occasionally Xanax. My doctor always says to take it before bed, but I know a lot of people take their meds during the day. I just wouldn't want to be taking medication anytime near when I would be drinking. I would want to have about 8 hours between the two.
