Is it safe to take chinese herbal medicine with antidepressants?
Hello,
I've been suffering from ocd and depression for 18 months already and I'm seeing a psychiatrist and Psychotherapist. Recently I went to an acupuncturist and she said that chinese herbal medicines can help but I'm also taking antidepressants, celexa 60mg, efexor 150mg and klonopin .5mg. Is it safe for me to take the chinese herbal medicine together with my antidepressants? I hope that you can help me.

I would be really carefull and check with a pharmacist or a doctor. I know a med like St.John's wort makes most antidepressants useless but I am really unsure about chinese medicine

I agree with T. Definitely run it by your doctor first. Or the acupuncturist should be knowlegeable in what can/can't be taken together with the herbal medicine. Most herbal medicines are just as strong, if not stronger than "Lab made" medicines...so you have to be careful in what is mixed. Good luck,
