Depressed and venting

How do you act like a team player when you don't feel like part of the team? I have to go to a business dinner tonight (a team dinner) and feel depressed and like crap. Am I over sensitive or do they really treat me like a second class citizen? I've been here for 13 years. We hired two new guys who have the same college degree as I do and their treated like gold. We had a team meeting earlier and it felt like gym class. These two were picked by senior management to work with them on projects over and over again. While I sat there. My boss says the three of us are peers, we all do the same work. So how come I'm treated differently. I'm not going to hide behind sexism. Am I 'm not good enough? I have to go to dinner with these morons and I don't want to. I'm in no mood to be a cheerleader. Maybe I should order a few drinks at the restaurant? My depression is only adding fuel to this fire. Every time I start to crawl out of the no self esteem pit somebody pushes me back in. Why just hate yourself when you can get others to do it for you?

Re: Depressed and venting

Hi Maria...I'm sorry you're feeling so crummy. How did the dinner go, Maria?? Was it any better than you expected?? Were you treated better?
I know it's hard working for a place where you feel "less than" others, especially when they are in the same exact position as you. I'm sorry, Maria...I hope things get better for you soon.
Amber

Re: Depressed and venting

Hello Maria!
I am a little confused with the hours! I do not know whether you have been to the team dinner yet or !
Anyway, I have been in your shoes many times and in the end I even refused to show up. But quess who was the loser?
Now that I am feeling a little better and my self esteem is on the rise, I do not give those dinners or any outing a second thought. I just put on my best outfit, make myself really looking good AND sexy and go, indifferent as to what others think of me. I also hold conversations on every topic they raise and voice my opinion really clearly and hold on to my ground. I found that this is the best approach to be taken seriously. The fact that I look good and sexy makes me feel very confident and gives me the ability to take them on their own game.!!!.
If you try this approach, Maria, rather than having negative thoughts these people underestimate you, you will first of all surprise them and secondly raise the stakes at their own game.
Try and see what happens.
Good luck

Re: Depressed and venting

Thanks guys, I just needed to vent. Today I still have the same problems, but I feel better (which is good). I survived the dinner. It was socially awkward (on my part). I never know what to talk about at those events. At least its over. Thanks again.
