Re: very depresed and upset

Hi: Medication just helps to make things a little bit easier to handle but by no means are they a cure all. As for the length of time you will need to spend on meds is not something that I or anyone can answer as there are a lot of factors taking place that determine that. If Iwere you I try to talk to your parents and then go see a doctor. The stronger your support system is the easier it will be to get through this difficult period.

take care

Re: very depresed and upset

Do go see some one Sempron. Suicide is a permanent solution to a temporary problem. Sure, the problem seems insurmountable now, but there are a lot of us who've been where you are now. It's a viscious circle - "I'm too depressed about not having a job to look for work" is not a unique circumstance. Don't let depression stop you from living. Talk to someone, preferably a medical doctor or psychiatrist. If you're having suicidal thoughts, you need help sooner than later.

And many people take anti-depressants for a while, just to get over a tough period in their life, and are able to stop. Some of us need them for the long haul. It's just not possible for a layperson to say about another person.

Try counseling before getting on medication.

Re: very depresed and upset

Hi!
I only want to add that medication helps and you take it for as long as it takes to make you feel stronger and more in control of your thoughts and feelings.
I am only adding here to what others have said: I have been on serious medication for four years. I have finally almost stopped taking anything because I have been lucky enough to start and continue sessions with a really good psychiatrist. He has helped me discover myself and get to the root of problems. Hence, I regained my ability to have clearer thoughts and to be able to control my mood, when I understand where it came from.
Medication does work, as well as any form of physical activity, plus therapy.
There is a happy ending to this illness, if only you decide you want to get better. Please do!
God bless!

i have spoken to my parents about it but they dont understand and just say its stress because im finding it hard to get a job but its both stress & anxiety together

its gotten worser recently,I came back of hoilday last week and when we got into our airport and i started shaking which didnt look too well

Re: very depresed and upset

your story is similar to mine, i've mad a thread about it but i'll repost my story here and maybe you can relate to it a little

"'ve been under alot of stress latley, i dont deal with it well. I've always been prone to anxiety / depression my life but its always been fairly tolerable and mild/moderate. But latley, upon graduating college, im finding it extemely difficult to get work, bills are adding up, loans need repaying, and i have no money. this has also taken a huge toll on my social life not being able to party with friends anymore. Also, i love my car and i love driving, and im facing a 1 year driving suspension which has hit me hard. and now my anxiety and depression are worse than ever and im pretty sure its because of all this stress. i feel like im losing myself, i have no energy or drive to do anything, i sit around the house all day watching tv, and this just gets me more depressed. every day i am noticing different symptoms which no one can explain and that i just have to write off to being caused by stress. (dizzy / disorientated, loss of appetite, increased anxiety, heart palpitations, what feels like restless leg syndrome, pressure behind my eyes and in my head, weird sensation of warm water going down my leg once in a while, double vision in my right eye, upset stomach) i just turned 25 and im already a skinny guy (5'11 150lbs) and i've lost like 10 pounds in the past few weeks just cause i barley eat anymore, which is something i used to love. i just dont have any appetite... my depression and anxiety isn't super, but its always there. some days i wake up feeling great, but that feeling is short lived and im soon back in my hole again. i am scared to death of taking strong antidepressant drugs due to side effects which im prone to, and withdrawl if i ever wanna get off it. i've been taking St. Johns Wort for the past couple of weeks, havn't really noticed a huge difference yet but im told it can take 4 - 6 weeks to take effect so im trying to be patient, its my last resort before switching to the heavy stuff which i really dont wanna do... i'd say at this point my anxiety is worse than my depression is, but it kinda goes hand in hand...ive been to the hospital a couple of times in july back when i had my "crash" and i didnt know what was wrong with me, took blood tests urine test thyroid tests heart tracers chest xrays, all came back normal. i'd like an MRI of my brain but thats like a 6 month waiting list, so is the waiting list for the anxiety specialist... so im hoping that maybe once i get a job and start keeping busy again i'll start to feel better...."

so, i too don't like the idea of medication, i'm trying natural sources to anti depressing and anti anxiety, for depression you should give st. john's wort a try, and kava kava is supposed to be good for anxiety, but i havn't tried that yet. both are over the counter and you don't need a prescription and side effects are minimal. talk to your doctor about it all though, if you have major depression you might need more direct intervention, especially if you're considering suicide...

Re: very depresed and upset

Sempron, was that the first time that you had every moved?

I had a major move in my life too when I was around thirty. I moved from the north to the south (culture change), I changed jobs, schools and my role changed because suddenly I was a professor's wife. All of these changes were so overwhelming for me and my anxiety took off because I wasn't okay to begin with. What I mean by this was that I had a lot of problems because of how I grew up in my family. I was always able to cope with my problems UNTIL I moved and this just upset the apple cart too much and I had a very hard time coping afterwards. What helped me was dealing with my issues so that I could be a stronger person and then be able to cope with anything.

Re: very depresed and upset

Sempron, well you can get better if you want to do the work. IMO to get better you have to understand yourself really well to figure out what is going on. Is this something that you are interested in? If you are interested why don't you give me more details about yourself, especially your family relationships. Are you interested in therapy?

That does suck but I think if you learn coping therapies they teach in cbt you would benefit and it may be the springboard you need to help you get that job. If you want lasting relief you need to make a commitment to yourself to work on yourself to get better. It seems hard but you can do it.
