The other day I was on lack of sleep, so around 7pm I drank one of those 2oz energy shots thats loaded with vitamin B. I was skeptical whether it would keep me awake, but lo and behold, it did. And it went beyond just keeping me awake...I was more productive than usual, I didn't have the urge to drink alcohol (which I do frequently), and the usual veil of depression and anxiety that hovers over my head daily seemed much lighter if not completely gone.
I figured it must be the B vitamins, so the next day I purchased a B complex at my local pharmacy. For the past few days I've been taking that along with a multivitamin and I've been feeling better than normal. More energy, less of a tendency to dwell on negative and self-defeating thoughts, less of an urge to escape with alcohol or other escapist means.
It has only been a few days so I have yet to find out if the positive effects will hold. But I'm curious if anybody else has had success with vitamin B. I read one post where someone taking 5htp only felt positive effects when taking a B-complex (which makes sense biochemically). But maybe the B-complex alone is enough in some situations?

I take 5-HTP and a B complex vitamin. The B complex helps to metabolize the 5-HTP faster, thus making it work better. However, B vitamins are obviously very important to the mood. In your case, you might just be deficient in them, and that could be why you started feeling better once taking the B complex. Good for you and glad you're feeling better. Better to take vitamins than scripts, I always say.
