150 mg of Wellbutrin (Bupropion) SR -- only once a day? - Depression Message Board

As I posted this weekend, I'm on 20 mg of Lexapro. My psychiatrist told me to add Wellbutrin (the Bupropion version) to help with depression and my utter lack of sex drive. I am concerned, however, because he prescribed

1. The scary generic version.
2. 150 mg of the SR version, but only once a day.

Won't that leave my system and give me withdrawal effects for the remaining half of the day? Or am I misunderstanding how the SR works?

Hi DK it would depend on how long you have been taking Wellbutrin SR. Wellbutrin SR is substained released and the Dr usually checks you out again to see if adding another would be a benefit. If so they increase by 150mg no less than 8 hours apart. Have you gone back to see him since he put you on that dosage? I take Wellbutrin XL 300mg once daily in the morning.

Nope, I JUST started it yesterday, actually (went to the doctor on Saturday). I was just wondering, because I thought the SR version HAD to be taken twice a day.... A couple years ago, I was on 300 mg of Wellbutrin XL with no other meds. That didn't work out, because I also suffer from anxiety and I was just too wired.

Now I'm Lexapro in combination, to hopefully treat the depression and the anxiety... We'll see. I'm going back in a month to see how it goes.
