Getting off Effexor XR was the hardest thing I have ever done in my life. Two months after going off the meds, I was so messed up that I tried to kill myself and landed in the ER for 5 days and then an institution for 4 more. It took about 9 months for me to feel "normal" again. I am HIGHLY against this medication and will tell anyone thinking of going on it to look for an alternative medication. Studies have shown that people coming off Effexor have a higher risk of Suicide than many other meds. I'm not saying that Effexor is the only evil enemy... There are plenty of other meds that are pushed by doctors that are equally as dangerous in SOME people, so talk it over and address any concerns with your psychiatrist. It hit me so hard that I didn't even know to ask for help.
