Re: getting depressed again even though taking antidepressants?

It is very possible for this to happen. What is going on in your life at the moment? Are you stressed about anything? Are you taking any other medications? Drinking at all? Any of these things can cause the antidepressants to be less effective. It is not a magic pill, it only smooths the path to some extent. The causes of the depression are still operating. Are you under the care of a psychiatrist? Maybe you need an adjustment in the dosage. Sera.

Re: getting depressed again even though taking antidepressants?

Hi Sarahann,

My depression started a little over a year ago. It took months to find the right anti-depressant (100 mg of Zoloft) but like Seraph said, there is no magic pill.
I still have bouts of depression, usually brought on by something in my life. But
the bouts of depression are not nearly as deep as they were prior to the Zoloft.
I think that those of us that struggle with depression could take Lord knows what and we will still have times when we are depressed. Sadly, this is life.
Try and enjoy the good times and know you will get through the bad times.
I know winter is an especially hard time for me because I'm always cold and I just love summertime. If you continue feeling this way maybe your doctor would want to add another med to what you are currently taking. Mine added a low dose of Serequel a few months ago that I take in the evening and it has helped a good bit.

Best wishes,

JB

Re: getting depressed again even though taking antidepressants?

So sorry you are going thru this. You may need to try a different med. Sometimes they just lose their effectiveness...and sometimes it takes a few times to find the med that works.

Also...taking meds does NOT mean you won't get depressed. It happens. Are you in talk therapy? If not, get there. It's a two step approach when on meds...the meds and the therapy.

good luck
