Depression and Loneliness

I feel so depressed and loney due to my current situation, my contract at work was terminated 5 months ago following quite a few years of being bullied etc. I really miss my work and am just about going crazy at home, cannnot sit still long enough to relax, feeling very negative about everything and my mum died 5 weeks ago which meant that the one purpose I had in life was to take care of her is now gone and I miss her so much that my heart aches. I worry constantly about the bleak future, have applied for several other jobs but receive negative references from my former employer following 30 years of loyal service within the caring proffession as a Manager and qualified Social Worker. I have also just turned 50 yrs so that is making me even more depressed and have very little social contact with others as I am ashamed at what has happened within my work. Please accept my sincere apologies for writing this way and fully understand that others have a lot more problems than myself but I just need to reach out to someone as I have never been very good at solving my own problems only those of others if I possibly can.

The first thing you should do right now is write down on a piece of paper all the things you are grateful for, trust me theres alot! Your health, your inner beauty, the sun rising, whatever it may be write it and then go for a walk and remember all the things your wrote and keep sending positive thoughts through out your whole body, do this every day and you will not only feel different you will see a difference. Please get over the fact that you we're let go, it happens to everyone, instead call up one of your good friends and have dinner and brain storm different jobs that you would be good at and then start applying! I hope this helped, we have all been in your shoes.
Good luck
WS

Re: Depression and Loneliness

at the risk of sounding too new-agey, it's sounds like the universe is nudging you into creating a more satisfying, whole life for yourself??? in other words, it sounds like you've been taking care of others, both professionally as well as personally, and now those roles are no longer available to you and you feel lost! Of course, you're still grieving your mom since that is so so fresh .... be sure to make time to grieve instead of distracting with other things. You need to cry, reminisce, etc. to move through grief in a healthy way. And then maybe you can think about other roles you would now like to be in? I'm a social worker too, and can't even iMAGine being with one organization as long as you were!!! Every agency I worked with was so dysfunctional (which of course brought out all my dysfunction) I had to quit and go into private practice!!! Maybe with all those years of experience you can take the skills you learned and figure out a new way to support yourself using them?

Re: Depression and Loneliness

Hi,

Thanks so much for your reply and I know deep down that it makes complete sense that I am being nudged into a different kinda profession and life, please could you tell me more about your current profession in private practice only I seem to have come to a complete standstill career wise I mean and have lost most of my condifence due to past issues within my working career and seem to be going aaround in circles, my thought processes are completely confused and seem to have lost my skills that were so evident before.

Many Thanks again for your kind words

What kind of social work did you practice? What were your duties?
