40 mgs. of Lexapro??????? - Depression Message Board

I have lost my job, due to the economy. Which has really depressed me in a terribly way. I was on 20 mgs. of Lexapro, and my dr increased it to 40mgs.

I was getting to where I was/AM still feeling sorry for myself. I am used to being around people, and hate being at home. I get unemployment, but don't want to live off the government.........so yes, I am depressed.

My dr was funny about raising my dosage to 40 mgs, however he did this anyway.......if this does not work within a few weeks, I am to go back and try another antidepressant.

I sleep later everyday and don't want to fall into this deep depression.

Questions, is 40mgs safe? Second, when will I see a difference?

I am so upset.......I know, life could be worse, however I feel like a looser.

Please, please, I need some support and answers.

Someone, please. Word of advise. I want to get to feeling better. When will I be able to tell a difference from 20 mgs to 40 mgs of lexapro?

I am sick to my stomach is the only thing I have noticed so far. My dr up my dosage last Thursday.

I need words of encouragement.

Hi, Donna--

I am also on Lexapro (20 mg). Everyone is different, and since I'm not a doctor, I can't tell you when you will begin to see an effect from the dosage increase. It generally takes about two weeks to see a difference, I believe.

What did your pdoc tell you when he increased your dosage? I would strongly suggest calling your pdoc to find the answer to this question since he is the only person who could tell you his reasons for increasing your dosage.

Hi, and thank you.......

He said 40mgs is really as high as you should go on this medication. Freaked me out, however just wanted to feel better. I hope so soon.

My poor husband is not used to this side of me, except the day my father passed away.......13 years ago.......still miss my hero.
