Cymbalta...Anyone had Success with?

Hi,

I was on Prozac for 15 years and it definately quit working for me sometime ago. Since then I have tried, Celexa, Prestiq, Effextor, Wellbutrin, Lexapro, Zoloft and...I think that is all of them. All with no success, although I seem to be suseptible to talking myself into a side effect that I see on the internet. I know this is not good...

Anyway, I just started Cymbalta and the last couple days, I have had real bad acid reflux and a tightness in my chest. I am not sure I should continue on this. I know w/o prozac, I'd be a mess, so it is doing something. I'd go back on that if this does not work.

The one thing that I am positive about prozac is that if I don't take it with a full glass of water AND something to eat afterwards, I get a terrible acid burning sensation in my chest. I take other meds and this is the only one that does that.

I should also say I have chronic pay, so the SSNI would seem to be better than the standard SSRI.

Any help would be appreciated.

Re: Cymbalta...Anyone had Success with?

I have been on Cymbalta for over a year and the results have been pretty good. What my doctor told me is that it needs to be taken with a "real" breakfast in order for it to work better and to avoid some of the side effects. I should note that I take Cymbalta along with a number of other meds including Effexor.

So it sounds like the Cymbalta is reacting the same way as Prozac does for you?

I was curious about both of them and how you liked them? Shopping around for a different SSRI.

I have been taking cymbalta since 2006. It worked great without many side effects, except weight gain, until the summer of 2009. I went to a new doctor and she perscribed welbutrin along with cymbalta and I very seldom have a bad day. I do, however, become irritable quite easily. I sweat a lot with cymbalta and my doctor suggested that I take less cymbalta more welbutrin. I will try it but I am affraid of becoming mean and nasty. Is there an antidepressant out there that does not cause excessive sweating and does not case excessive weight gain or irritability.
