Chest pains, it is panic attacks

Hi all,

I have started to get servere chest pains, Some are waking me when I am asleep. Are they because of the depression and me getting so stressed, or some sort of panic attack? Mom told me to go to the doc, but he's probably getting fed up of me, I am certainly fed up of him!! <IMG SRC="http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/smile.gif"> Heart trouble runs in my family, my sister has to have an op, so I am probably worrying too much.

Any help would be great.

Re: Chest pains, it is panic attacks

Sometimes when I am feeling upset or depressed, I get chest pains. I had some tests where they put the tube down into your stomach with a little camera at the end. It did not hurt at all. They put you in a twilight sleep. Well, anyway, they found that I had a hiatle hernia where the acids come up from a little valve at the top of the stomach that is supposed to close but in my case doesn't. This causes me a lot of pain and I always thought I was having a heart attack. This test was done after having an EKG and having heart problems ruled out. No doctor is going to think you are nuts. They deal with all kinds of people and problems everyday. Have your doc check your heart to rule it out. It's important to check it out even if it is for your own piece of mind. If you are having any chest pains, you should not take any chances. And besides, it could be something as simple as what I had.

Re: Chest pains, it is panic attacks

hi.. i suffer from severe panic disorder and chest pains can sometimes be a part of them.. but, its more a tightening of my chest along with shortness of breath for me.. its not really painful, just scarey because my heart will also be pounding and racing..

i agree that you should talk to your dr. about this problem and eliminate any other causes.. a lot of minor things can cause chest pains, so please don't worry about telling your dr. he's there to help you and to ease your mind..

Chest pains are nothing to sit and querry about. If you are having chest pain get your butt to the hospital and have an ECG done IMMEDIATELY! A long time family friend at the age of 46 just passed away from a heart attack. Do not dismiss this as anxiety. I do not want to scare you but if it happens again don't think twice about it. Wouldn't you rather be embarassed by being told that it is anxiety, than have a heart attack.

Consider myself well and truely told. I know I should go to my docs, I guess I put it down to stress. But I will get my butt down there. I am scared, sister has a heart problems resulting in a passmaker.
Thanks.

Re: Chest pains, it is panic attacks

Hiya..

Chest pains are a serious matter and should not be taken lightly. However they are also a very big part of panic attacks, extensive anxiety, and often even indigestion. Many things cause them that are not necessarily cardiac related.

At first, chances should not be taken and the ER or at least doc's office is where we should be.

But if they are a frequent pattern, and we get to know them, we also cannot go into the ER every day to pop several hundred bucks to find out our semi-spicey dinner didn't sit so well.

So while great concern is very warranted, many of us who have them on a near-daily basis, know what they are and what to expect.

In your case jade0605, you should at least get to the doc a few times, to find out for sure (if possible) what is really going on in there and how to deal with it.

Best Regards
JollyRoger

Hey, my old buddy Jade. Better get to the doctor girl. You never know. Did you ever get in to see a syc doc for your depression? I haven't heard from you in quite a while. I'm over here playing medication merry go round. The one I'm on now is working pretty good so far. Good luck girl and stay in touch.
