Paxil Side effects again

Has anyone had any visual problems? My pupils do weird things. I know that sounds funny, but they seem to be off center sometimes. (Ive had eeg's and all so my noggin is ok). I also seem to wake up often at night, wake up dizzy or disoriented (usually fall back to sleep). and since i started taking it, have had a noticable ringing in my ears. I was on 10mg for 2 weeks since im only on 20mg (for about 2 weeks). I dont want to have to take more if i dont have to. Ive only been on it for a month or so, so I should give it more time I would assume?

Re: Paxil Side effects again

My eyes started doing funny things on Paxil, too. It seems as if my vision's getting "stiff", and it's taking me longer to move my eyes. I'm on an anti-psychotic medication, too, and I thought that that caused it, but I never thought of the paxil... I started taking benzatropine, too, and my vision problems stopped.

Re: Paxil Side effects again

I was on Paxil 6 yrs, 60 mg, now coming off. By the way, my keyboard skips the kids spilt soda on it. Ringing ears, bad taste in my mouth, feel like a truck ran over me. 46 yrs old, use to be pretty, gained 85 pounds in those 6 years, which depresses me. Laughing!!!!!! What a circle - hate these withdrawals. Anyone else gain alot of weight?

Re: Paxil Side effects again

I've gained a LOT of weight. I went from 160, which isn't too bad (I'm 6'1") to 220, in less than a year. it's affecting my knees and legs, and I get down-winded when I go up a flight of stairs. I see a dietician, who's helping me to lose weight, and I've actually gained about 7 lbs in a month from eating well. right now, I keep having to buy new clothes because I keep gaining. I just feel so gross. almost every day, I find new fat that wasn't there the day before! I went to cloud's site, and I don't believe that there's anything wrong w/ being fat, but it's not for me. I have a ton of clothes that are waiting for me to lose weight! The sad thing is that the paxil actually works for me...

Re: Paxil Side effects again

I see you're a "newbee" too. Was only on Paxil for a little over a month, myself. Pupils noticibly dialated throughout the day , vision seemed to kind of bounce and was unable to make out the lcd display info when looking thru a camera. As for sleep, from the first night I took it, I didn't sleep thru the night again. I see stuff on this board about weight gain, and I'd have to agree with that as well. Seemed lilke my self-control where food was concerned went right out the window. On the other hand, I DID begin to feel human again. I don't know if such side effects go away. Its probably different for everyone. I wish you well.

Re: Paxil Side effects again

There is a lot about Paxil and weight gain. Where is the gain coming from? Is it water retention? Is it over eating? Is the Paxil slowing down the metabolism so food isn't utilized quickly? Does anyone know?
I've been on Paxil, 10 mgs, for almost two weeks. I've but some weight on because I'm finally able to eat. A large weight gain concerns me.

Re: Paxil Side effects again

As stated in a previous post, I too was on Paxil for several years. Sure it made me feel "human" again BUT I gained at least 50 lbs that I did not need to gain! Paxil does a MAJOR job on your brain chemistry therefore you will become dizzy and disoriented. Which in turn effects your pupils and vision.

I believe (only in my situation & experience from Paxil) that I gained weight simply because I CRAVED sweets & carbs. I felt as though if I didn't eat them practically all the time that I would really kill someone if I didn't get that "fix". I would become extremely shaky, etc if I didn't eat chocalate or something sugary immediately.
(And I know that sounds a bit on the hypoglycemic side too but that was ruled out by my doctor).

Most AD's bring you out of depression and anxiety, causing your brain to feel happy and satisfied which makes you feel like eating again and enjoying life.

Just one's opinion though. Perhaps it does effect the metabolism (due to the sluggish feeling you retain while taking Paxil)? I don't think you retain fluid from taking it, I believe Paxil makes people crave junk food, at least in my case (shrugs). That's why I had to stop taking it, the long term effects weren't worth the happiness I felt from it and I knew there must be something else out there that would help me.

Best wishes to all,
Robin

Re: Paxil Side effects again

Paxil makes me crazy. When I first took it it was not what I wanted. The pupil thing happened and everything else, so I quit it, simple as that may seem. It seems sugars cause ssri'stomake a person twice as jacked up on them,, does anyone ever feel like they are on an acid trip where intense fear overwhelmes every second when they take anti depressants?
I spend alot of my life wondering why I have adapted to taking medicaion everyday,, and why my fears depend on it for body/brain funciton.
I really wonder if they know what these meds really do,, and why they say they willcure this and cure that when it is much more than just a simple cure. The problem is rooted very very deep. Before the ages of antidepressants and most medications how did people manage? Was prayer ignored as much then as it is now?

Re: Paxil Side effects again

Well its now June, Ive been on Paxil since November. I have been sleeping alot better, and my weight has stabilized, Ive gone from 238 to 258 since I started the drug. I have now began weight training 4x a week, and have modified my diet. Less food, more exercise. I find that this has helped with the energy and all. I do feel 'off-balence' quite often, however I have become accustomed to it, so its not too bad...although my eyes and pupils still look weird, but Im not complaining. Im going to keep this up thru the summer, and maybe in the fall consider trying to ween myself off of it. I have read alot about withdrawal and all, so when I do, Im going to sit there and just take very small amounts off of my pills, and ween myself off almost like 1mg at a time, maybe once every 2 weeks or so. Your brain has to re-learn how to produce seratonin again, because of the drug, so I figure doing this will be good instead of dropping off 10 mg at a time. Going cold turkey or cutting dosage in half is just the wrong way to go, unless you like the acid trip feeling lol . Just wanted to post an update. Everyone hang in there, and God Bless.

Re: Paxil Side effects again

Ya paxil has many side effects. When I went up to 20 mg from 10 my pupils dialated. It was kinda creepy actually. I think I am gonna stop taking my paxil. It dosnt seem to do much anyway. I cant stand taking 20 mgs so I have only been taking 10. I might try prosac or something else. Hmmm come to think of it I seem to feel alot less emotions lately. Well good news is, its been 2 days and I have yet to feel any withdrawls from it.

Re: Paxil Side effects again

well so far no withdrawl and its now like 5 days or so. I figure I was on such a small amount that there wouldnt be much withdrawl anyway.

Good news is I feel ok, and I have gotten my financial situation almost back in check.
Not really any bad news i guess. My emotions
are starting to come back. Anouther week or 2 and i should be back to my old self....hopefully my really old self when i wasnt depressed lol.

Ummmm.....I guess there isnt much more to say. Go to the docs on the 27th. He will probably get me on prosac or a new one. I couldnt handle 20 mgs of paxil. It made me all drugged up. Effexor seemed better for me. I think im gonna try the working out thing in stead of the anti depressants. 2 months of working out is suppost to be almost as effective as taking an ad for 2 months.

Well anyway. Later.

Dan.

Re: Paxil Side effects again

I just started Paxil as well. I've been on it for about 30 days (20mg). I haven't noticed any dramatic change but if I stop and think about it i've changed a lot in just the way that my mind deals with anxiety and guilt. I had extreme side effects at first with strange tingling and strange sleep and appetite and my eyes were strange as well as some sexual side effects, but all those side effects have dissapeared. Its important to figure out the right time of day for you to take it and to take it at the same time every day. But the side effects to go away pretty fast.
