Well.. I have been taking Paxil now for 3 days due to stress. The side effects have been minor headaches, fatigue, stomach upset and weakness. It almost feels like my legs are going to give out on me.. Oh yeah, almost forgot, I don't feel as sharp minded as I did before I started taking Paxil. Has anyone else experienced these side effects, and do they go away? Any info would be great.. Thanks all...
Hi there. I have been on Paxil now for about four weeks. My doctor tells me I should be on it for at least 6 months. I was having headaches, dizziness, memory loss, among other things. My neuroloigist tells me that this is due to the fact that my brain does not produce enough seratonin. Since taking the paxil the headaches and dizziness have definately decreased but the first week or two on the medication were hard. Now I am feeling better but losing a lot of weight and not being able to sleep at all. I probably only sleep 2 or 3 hours a night and I am exhausted all the time. The doc says to continue taking it and if after four weeks I am still tired to increase my dosage from 20 mg to 40. Have you had trouble sleeping yet? Hope I was some help to you. Christine
I've taken Paxil on and off for 10 years (!) and my main side effects are CONSTIPATION and SEXUAL DISFUNCTION.
Keep in mind that everyone's side effects may be different with the same medications.
My constipation is so bad that I can take a strong laxative 2 nights in a row with nothing happening for the following 2 days! The sexual side effects are lack of sex drive and difficulty with erection and orgasm. Somehow, even though I just went back to my old dosage of 40 mg, I am not noticing the sexual side effects as much.
I keep taking Paxil because it's the only one that has worked for me consistently.
Well.. The side effects have actually gone away, except for that nasty sexual one!! but I just increased my dosage for the Paxil, and I am getting a prescription for Wellbutrin as well. Is anyone on both that can tell me the side effects if any?
And for Christine VR - No I haven't had any sleeplessness... and I sure hope I don't get it!!
What is wellbutrin and what does it do? Just wondering because I have never heard of it. Also do any of you know if it is safe to combine sleeping pills with the Paxil. I am going out of my mind not being able to sleep, falling asleep in the wrong places (at work)!! Any advice?
I've been on Paxil for 4-5 weeks and side effects are starting to wane of ... those included weakness, sleepiness and retarted orgasm (altough my girlfriend doesn't complain about this one )
And ask your doctor about combining sleeping pills and Paxil, altough I didn't had problems with mine ...
I've been on Paxil for a couple of years now and have had none of the initial side effects as you have all described above. My only continuing problems are like a couple others... no interest in sex and constipation. I tried to ween off my Paxil, and ended up going back to my 20 mg a day. If I ween off, I'll have to do it over a long period of time because it gives me these electrical charges in my arms and head if I go off too fast. Doc told me to hang on for a bit longer and then give it another try if I wanted to. I was mostly doing it for the Sexual dysfunction and Constipation.
As far as it helped me...when I was taking
it several years ago..it did'nt.
But thats just me. I have went through several doctors and several meds and had problems with them all, except the one I am currently on (Remeron).
By the way, Viagra (25mg) which is one
pill cut into quarters gets me rrreally
randy. Also, Melatonin (sold over the counter) will help you sleep taken just before bedtime. I don't take it now but did
with other meds. I can tell you that the first month or so on any new med is a ***** and is really no indication of how it will effect you later in treatment. Good luck..
Hi, larrblue. I'm on 60mg of paxil for 6 years, and I empathize with you. I hooked up with a hot new girlfrien six months, and right away wanted my shrink to switch me to wellbutrin -- which purports to NOT have sexual side effects. He thought it not a good idea with all I was going through at the time, so I'm still on paxil.
My shrink says "just take a 'drug holiday'; skip the paxil the night before sex..." How's that for murdering spontaneity? ("Gee, I MIGHT get laid tomorrow; I better SKIP my paxil tonight..." :-) But it actually DOES seem to help restore libido. I find that skipping it for TWO nights is even better, if you can tolerate it. Skip Thursday night; go for Friday. If you have problems Friday, go for Saturday! :-) I sometimes use viagra, too. I hate how meds have f**d up my sex life, but you know what the alternative might be. At least, I AM alive! I'm quite certain that I might not have been, without medication.
Okay, that's more than enough out of me! Good luck and best wishes!
As you can see, I'm new on this board and I just have a quick question for you. I just started on Paxil this week and I'm a little worried. Like a good Internet-wise citizen, I checked out some information on side-effects and all that and I keep seeing people talking about how horrible it is to get off of Paxil when the time comes. It's making me VERY nervous about taking it at all. Do any of you have anything to offer on this?
I have been taking Paxil off and on for three years now. I have been on it constant for three months now. Paxil has made it hard for me to sleep. I now take Trazadone at night to help me sleep. Paxil has did wounders for me. But, it is going to affect everybody diffrent. Good Luck.
Paxil can be a blessing or can be a nuisance. For me, it caused an increase in anxiety. I had tremors and shaking in my legs. This is a known side effect and goes away after a while.
My recommendation is to start at a low dose of 5mg for 4-5 days, then 10mg for a week then, if prescribed, 20mg. DO NOT jump into 20mg. If you do, the likelyhood of side effects is much greater.
As far as coming off the Paxil, I did it slowly by cutting the 20mg into 10mg for 1 week, then into 5mg for another week then 5mg every other day for 1 week. This was perfect and there was no noted bad effects.
Personally I think Paxil is a strong anti depressant. I have read good things about Zoloft but it depends on the person.
I'd been hearing so many horror stories about Paxil that I wasn't sure if I wanted to take it. I'm glad to hear that someone out there had a better experience. So now I guess I'll see what happens. Anything has to be better than feeling the way that I have been.
Paxil has horrible side effects and I am sure the withdrawls are worse. I took it for about 6 months until it gave me feelings of sharp electric shock waves running through my head,, I have been taking adderal and ativan ,, adderal for add and ativan for sleep,, I went to the doctor Friday and he put me on a third medication for depression,,, effexor ,, so thats two cns stimulants at a time,, I woke up today and haven' taken any of them,, I don't know for sure that medication is what I need anymore,, does anyone agree??
