Type 2 control diet/exercise

For the past 5 years I have successfully controlled Type 2 diabetes using the method many others have used in a book called "Live Like You Have No Diabetes" by Jayne Boykin and Bonny C. Damocles. Hopefully I will be able to prevent or postpone the use of meds for several more years or forever.

I was never on meds but know others who were on meds and managed to later control with diet/exercise only.

I just had to share in hopes others will benefit as I have.

Re: Type 2 control diet/exercise

I am buying the book today and can't wait to read it. Your message was an inspiration for me. I have always had difficulty controlling my eating habits. I would love to lower the dosages of all my meds, diabetes and blood pressure. I know it can be done!!!!

Re: Type 2 control diet/exercise

Hi Marie,
I controlled my diabetes for the first 5 years with just diet and exercise. I wasn't heavy to begin with and I think walking was the best thing I ever could do formyself with this.
However, last year my arthritis got so bad I really can not walk now and BS went up and unfortunately had to get on the meds I hate so much.
It can be done, but I think exercise is the biggest helper and of course changing your eating habits . Good luck with the book.

Re: Type 2 control diet/exercise

Hi Sunshine12,
Congratulations being able to control via diet/exercise for 5 years. Yes, walking seems to be the best exercise for controlling diabetes. Walking is my main exercise, can count on a 20 point drop in BS after 1 mile.

Sorry arthritis has thrown you for a big curve and limits your exercise. I too have arthritis (fibromyalgia) in legs and there are times I just cannot walk. On those days I try to limit intake of carbs so I am not forced to walk on aching legs.

Have you tried a bike? At least your weight would be on the seat instead of legs. Bouncing on an exercise ball helps too.

The book is not mine, however, I did write a chapter for the book. I did not recieve pay or get a share of profits. I shared my story in hopes it would help other diabetics.

Don't fret about having to take meds, we never know when we will need to do the same. I am in hopes I can postpone meds for a long time.

Marie
